Domestic Violence Funding Letter Writing Party

  • East Lincoln Way Sparks, NV United States (map)

Domestic Violence affects all people, of all genders, ages, races, ethnicity, political affiliations, sexual orientation, religions, cultures, income levels...everyone. This is NOT a partisan issue. This is a serious public health issue.

The problem in the state of Nevada is alarming. For the last 18 years, Nevada has consistently ranked among the top 10 nationally in rate of women murdered by a male intimate partner; we were in the top 5 states 15 times in those 18 years, and in the #1 spot SIX times. (Violence Policy Center 1997-2016)

Together, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) programs, the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Fund along with other grant programs create and support comprehensive responses to the needs of victims of domestic violence. You can learn more about those programs here.

Current Proposed Budget Cuts would abolish these programs, effectively closing the doors on Domestic Violence Programs nationwide.

Please join us on International Women's Day to learn more about the work going on at local, state and national levels, and write letters to our representatives educating them on the need to continue funding these vital programs.

Members of the Washoe County Domestic Violence Task Force, Alliance for Victims' Rights, and other organizations will be partnering together to educate our community.
