Writers Resist: The Biggest Little Protest Reading

  • Holland Project 140 Vesta Street Reno, NV, 89502 United States (map)

Join us for WRITERS RESIST in Reno! On Sunday, January 15, 2017, writers all over the nation will join together to respond to the aftermath of the 2016 U.S. election, to #WriteOurDemocracy and re-inaugurate the values of justice, liberty and hope.

Reno's event will take place at The Holland Project from 2-5PM, and will include readings by 12-15 local poets and writers, including a multi-participant reading of James Baldwin and an all-ages open mic session. This event is free to the public.

Local community, social, and arts organizations like AmeriCorps, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Literary Arts & Wine reading series, Reno Little Theater, Northern Nevada Hopes, and others will also take the mic during the event to talk about their work in the community, what they need most right now, and to sign up volunteers and take donations. At half- time, local dance troupe TRIBUS will give an intermission performance.

WRITERS RESIST is the brainchild of poet Erin Belieu, co- founder of feminist literary organization VIDA in response to what Belieu and others believe are threats to the basic civil liberties of Americans, particularly marginalized groups.
